Those who follow this teaching of Mine with faith and without envy are freed from the bondage of karma.

faith sincerity liberation accessibility non-envy

Synthesis

Krishna offers a powerful promise: anyone who follows the teaching of selfless action with faith (shraddha) and without resentment (anasuya) is liberated from karmic bondage. The two qualifications are crucial — faith means sincere trust in the process even before seeing results, and absence of envy means accepting the teaching without bitterness or cynicism. This verse democratizes liberation: you do not need perfect knowledge or total renunciation, just sincere faith and a generous heart. All traditions agree that sincerity of practice matters more than perfection of understanding. Madhva's Dvaita identifies faith and non-envy as enabling alignment with divine grace. Abhinavagupta reads these as clearing the veils that block natural Self-recognition. Vallabhacharya's pushti marga celebrates the democratization of grace — sincerity, not perfection, is the threshold. Tilak emphasizes that sincere practice of selfless action suffices. Vivekananda proclaims spiritual democracy: genuine faith and freedom from cynicism open liberation to every human being.

Advaita Vedanta/Adi Shankaracharya

Shankara emphasizes that shraddha (faith) and anasuya (freedom from fault-finding) are the two prerequisites for the teaching to work. Even without complete jnana, those who practice Karma Yoga sincerely purify their minds and gradually attain liberation from karmic bondage.
